Watch LMHQ x Womxn Owning It: Inside Red Antler
Casper. Allbirds. Hinge. You can picture the logos, the typeface, the color of the subway ads. But how did these ubiquitous brands develop such unique and enduring identities? On June 11, LMHQ and IFP’s Womxn Owning It hosted a virtual coffee break highlighting the work of Brooklyn-based branding studio Red Antler. Co-Founder and Chief Brand Officer Emily Heyward, Executive Creative Director Jenna Navitsky and Client Director Kate Harkin will discussed Red Antler’s inner workings and day-to-day operations. The conversation was focused on how to balance building a business with fueling creativity and communicating the value of your work. Key takeaways included:
  • The job is not to make brands happy; the job is to make clients successful.
  • Questions to ask potential clients include: What's the problem that you're solving? What's the single thing your business stands for? What makes you different from competitors?
  • As a startup founder or new business owner, surround yourself with people who know more than you do.
  • How to get hired at Red Antler? The team tries to dig deeper to see if the person is naturally curious and wants to learn a new medium. You need to be pumped for uncertainty, and the pace, and look forward to things that haven't been done before.

You can learn more about Red Antler’s origin story and innovative work in Emily’s debut book, Obsessed: Building a Brand People Love from Day One.
