LMHQ Women’s Breakfast: Women in Venture Capital

Date: 01/30/2019

Time: 8:30am
Where: LMHQ, 150 Broadway, New York NY
Fee: $15

Join us at LMHQ as we kick off our first Women’s Breakfast of the season all about women in venture capital. As the venture capital industry grows, funding more small, early stage or emerging startups in exchange for equity or ownership stakes, the curiosity behind what goes into working in VC grows along with it. A certain type of person, perhaps male, is called to mind when considering who works in VC, and in fact only 7.4% of investors are women, according to AngelList data in 2017.

And yet, women are breaking into the VC field daily. Hear from Sutian Dong, Partner at Female Founders Fund, and Jessica Peltz-Zatulove, Partner at MDC Ventures, Nina Stepanov, Principal and Director of Partnerships at Acceleprize, and Cat Hernandez, Operating Partner at Primary Ventures, as they share why they built a women in VC community 4 years ago. We’ll chat with them about how they’re elevating conversations around common misconceptions of the industry, and demystifying the process of breaking in so that you have the tools to do so.

Even if you never thought you would be interested in the VC world, now is the time to learn more!

About the Speakers:

Sutian Dong, Partner at Female Founders Fund
Sutian Dong is a Partner at Female Founders Fund, an early-stage fund investing in the exponential power of exceptional female talent.  Founded in 2014, the fund has built the most recognized brand focused on leading female-run opportunities in internet and software startups. Select investments include: ELOQUII, Tala, Maven, Zola, Rockets of Awesome, WayUp, and Thrive Global.

Cat Hernandez, Operating Partner at Primary Ventures
Cat believes that a big part of startup success relies on a company’s ability to hire, engage and develop the best people. Period. As Operating Partner at Primary Ventures, and a people evangelist by trade, Cat plays a critical role in shaping the founder journey, especially when it comes to delivering on Primary’s promise of impactful post-investment support. That type of guidance comes in many forms, but it is centered around making sure the entrepreneurs we’re lucky enough to back have access to supercharged networks and timely operating advice. Now more than ever, companies understand the importance of aligning people strategy with business strategy, and that’s a shift in mentality for which Cat will always advocate.

Jessica Peltz-Zatulove, Partner, MDC Ventures
Jessica Peltz-Zatulove is a Partner at MDC Ventures, where she focuses on investments in early stage digital media and marketing tech startups that address the needs of the Modern CMO.  As the CVC lead of a global advertising holding company, Jessica has scaled Ventures into a global operation spanning the entire MDC network, evaluating hundreds of companies a year while educating partners on the emerging trends driving the advertising industry.  She’s sourced and lead investments in companies such as Msg.ai, Gradient.io, Veritonic, and Catch & Release.
