Watch Host a Virtual Event Like a Pro
Born out of necessity due to the Covid-19 outbreak and subsequent shutdowns, virtual events have become the new normal. For everything from baby showers to board meetings, we are turning on our laptop cameras and tuning in via Zoom and Google Hangouts. While virtual events can’t replicate the magic of in-person events, they can still be high-quality and engaging.
In this workshop Elissa Verrilli, Director of Programs & Partnerships at LMHQ, took participants through the steps of planning and executing a virtual event: choosing a platform, designing a program, communicating with registrants and running the program without a hitch. She shared lessons learned regarding attendee rates, paid vs free events, how to engage a virtual audience and more. Key takeaways included:
  • Virtual events cannot capture the magic of in person events, so don't try! Try to design the best virtual experience possible.
  • Choose the correct platform and function for your event: for smaller events and workshops, use a meeting function; for larger public events, use a webinar function.
  • When designing your virtual event, build in interactive activities using breakout rooms, the whiteboard feature, polls and more.
  • Make sure you prep your speaker and schedule a tech run through.
  • Communicate with your audience early and often, before and after the event.
