Creating a Racially Equitable Organization

Date: 08/19/2020

Time: 5:30pm
Where: LMHQ, Virtual,
Fee: FREE

As society reckons with the hard conversations about racial equity and justice that have been brought to the forefront by the killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and others and the Black Lives Matter movement, companies are grappling with how best to incorporate calls for action and lessons learned into their operations. From revised mission statements to rebranding to dedicated DEI hires, many of their solutions have taken a high-level, top-down approach and can seem like a “quick fix”. In this action-oriented environment, it can be easy to forget that there are already many organizations that have effectively integrated racial justice into their missions and operations.

In this panel discussion, we will hear from the leaders of some of these organizations about the practices they use to promote diversity and racial equity both within their organizations and in their practices/initiatives/missions. They will showcase how institutions can adopt tangible bottom-up practices to allow for a sustainable, inherent commitment to racial justice.

Panelists include:
Karen Brown-Stovell, Executive Director, Forward Ever Sustainable Business Alliance
Mohammed Faisal, Co-Founder & CEO, The Money Hub
Chandani Punia, Innovation and Human Centered Design expert, and Impact Hub New York Metro Area Advisor (moderator)
Ken Walker, Senior Vice President, Core Mission Support, Per Scholas
